Women in the Arts: States of Play

Canopy Artspace Cairns 2013

Artist Statement - Barbara Dover

My work predominantly probes the familiarities and intricacies of relations between humans and animals. The challenge arises for me in confronting the dilemma of understanding the complexity of animals through the vehicle and inherent aesthetic of the animal body.

The benefits of play, touch, food, expectation, well-being and aesthetics make for a worthwhile and happy life for all sentient animals. Humans are not the only species to possess the capacity to feel pleasure, have a sense of humour and the ability to play for the fun of it.

The exhibition was a Knock Knock Contemporary Arts’ Initiative.
