Artist Statement - Barbara Dover

The investigation of the bat, a much maligned and mysterious animal emanates from this commonly held disparagement but also from the intriguing question posed by the philosopher, Thomas Nagel. He asked: What is it like for a bat to be a bat? As much as we try to imagine, can we ever comprehend or know what it is like to be another animal or even another human?
