Artspace Mackay's biennial event, the Libris Awards, brings together works by leading and emerging artist book makers from across the country. The Awards are a chance to celebrate the art form and build on the gallery's significant artist book collection through the competition's acquisitive prizes. Artspace Mackay
Vestige (from the cake stand series) is made from found objects: a deconstructed illustrated encyclopedia of birds; twigs and feathers; and a glass dome stand. With the spectre of climate change and the growing pressures on fauna and flora, there is increasing urgency to the need to protect and conserve nature. Will living creatures and their habitat survive as the world's temperatures fluctuate and weather patterns shift? Will nature continue to exist only as some sort of rare exhibit?
